I. M. V. AS A TRUE GANDHIAN
It is a fact that , even when a student, Sri Velayudhan Master was deeply attracted by the values of Indian freedom struggle, especially by the views of Mahatma Gandhi and Sri Narayana Guru. Naturally he was attracted to the field of activities for the prohibition of liquors. Under the leadership of Lakshmi. N. Menon, Kerala Madyaniridhana Samithi was formed. M. P. Manmadan was the first President of the Samithi. He was followed by G. Kumara Pillai. In turn Velayudhan Master became the President. He led many anti-liquor struggles. The most gamous among them was ‘Azhimavu Struggle’. Master led the anti-liquor struggle in the villege of Azhimavu in Thrissur districtfor about 11 years. The struggle started on a Gandhi jayanthi day, October 2nd, of 1987. It continued for eleven years. G. kumarapillai and Velayudhan Master took hunger strike for days. The ethic Azhimavu struggle came to an victorious end with the closing of the toddy shop at Azhimavu.
Sri I. M. Velayudhan Master was the founder-member of M. P. Manmadan Smaraka Trust. Later he served as its Vice- President also. One of the centres of Gandhi Peace Foundation was constituted at Thrissur in 2003. Master was the first Chaiman of Thrissur Centre.
