LIBRARY ACTIVITIES
Sri I. M. Velayudhan Master gave an important place for library activities during the early stages of his social work. He recognized the inevitable role of libraries in the field of education. Only through libraries, we could achieve total literacy, universal education, efficient education, quality education, etc., he thought. Bearing this in his mind he went into the field library activities and established agood number of libraries in Thrissur district. A few examples are given below.

His library work did not come to an end with the establishment of some libraries or reading rooms. He continued his work and reached the highest point of the library organization in Kerala.

Sri I. M. Velayudhan Master began his journalist activities as a Co- editor in ‘DEENABANDHU’, the chief organ of Kochi Rajya Prajamandalam. He took leave from his teaching profession to find time for ‘Deenabandhu’
He served for ten years as Editor of ‘VIVEKODAYAM’, the magazine that was published by Sri C. R. Kesavan Vaidyar , from Irinjalakuda.
He ha edited and published ‘K. Kochukuttan Smaranika’ (in 1988) and ‘Athmaavinte Ayalkkaran – G. Kumarailla Smaranika’ (in 2001)
WRITER
He has written a number of books. But only Two were published or now available. They are:
1. ‘Vaidyarute Katha ( Story of Vaidyar)’ is a biography of Sri C. R. Kesvan Vaidyar. It was published in 1984.Its third edition was published in 1999.
2.‘Samoohika Vidyabhyasa chinthakal’ is a collection of essays published in the year 1995. In this Sri I. M. Velayudhan Master had expressed his views of educational and social problems of the time. His views and opinions are listened seriously by the authorities, educational thinkers, social scientists and the public.
He has written a political drama, ‘Puthiya Kaval Naikkal’. The play, containing nine scenes, was performed in many stages and was accepted by the public. Unfortunately it was not published as a book.
He has written many small poems, but none of them published.
Master has written a large number of essays and research papers. They were published in periodicals, magazines, souvenirs and newspapers. Besides these, numberless speeches and high ranked papers were there in his bag. The attempt to collect these works is not yet succeeded.
He was the owner of a strong writing style. The style may be simple, the language may be very simple, but the action will be highly strong and penetrating.
He was an un-equaled person in transliterating the speeches of eminent national leaders. He has transliterated the speeches of Jawaharlal Nehru, Acharya Kripalaani, SchEtha Kripalaani, Rajagopalachari, Lal Bahdur Sasthri, U. N. Dhebar, etc.

It is a fact that , even when a student, Sri Velayudhan Master was deeply attracted by the values of Indian freedom struggle, especially by the views of Mahatma Gandhi and Sri Narayana Guru. Naturally he was attracted to the field of activities for the prohibition of liquors. Under the leadership of Lakshmi. N. Menon, Kerala Madyaniridhana Samithi was formed. M. P. Manmadan was the first President of the Samithi. He was followed by G. Kumara Pillai. In turn Velayudhan Master became the President. He led many anti-liquor struggles. The most gamous among them was ‘Azhimavu Struggle’. Master led the anti-liquor struggle in the villege of Azhimavu in Thrissur districtfor about 11 years. The struggle started on a Gandhi jayanthi day, October 2nd, of 1987. It continued for eleven years. G. kumarapillai and Velayudhan Master took hunger strike for days. The ethic Azhimavu struggle came to an victorious end with the closing of the toddy shop at Azhimavu.
Sri I. M. Velayudhan Master was the founder-member of M. P. Manmadan Smaraka Trust. Later he served as its Vice- President also. One of the centres of Gandhi Peace Foundation was constituted at Thrissur in 2003. Master was the first Chaiman of Thrissur Centre.
Mathrubhoomi, the National Daily, said: Sri Velayudhan Master was the True Gandhian, last Gandhian Kerala seen.

Sri. Velayudhan Master has received many state and national recognitions. Some of them are listed below:
